Pluse HD: †Nutanix Customer installbase database ? [#gaaaea9b]
Pulse HD Beta FAQ 1. Pulse HD 2. Beta Program 1. Pulse HD Q1. What is Pulse HD? To shorten customer ticket resolution time, Pulse HD (high definition) is a complete redesign of how Nutanix collects troubleshooting data from the Nutanix blocks deployed in customer sites. It is the next version of Pulse (formerly called ASUP or Auto Support). Improvements in Pulse HD over Pulse v1: ● High definition: Pulse HD collects more finegrained data at flexible collection intervals. This gives Nutanix support access to all the necessary data when a ticket is raised, and thereby avoids the lengthy process of manually collecting more data. This can result in significant reduction in ticket resolution time. ● Ease of install and upgrades: Pulse HD runs on all versions of NOS, so upgrading Pulse HD to get the latest functionality and fixes is easy to do. Q2. What types of data does Pulse HD collect and at what frequency? Pulse HD’s data collection process is a refinement over that of Pulse v1, and is tuned to collect the most important data (systemlevel stats and some configuration information) more frequently in order to automatically detect issues and make troubleshooting easier. Customersensitive information is NOT collected. Data frequency is variable depending on the how frequently the data changes, and may be collected upwards of every 5 minutes. Q3. What is the overhead to run Pulse HD? There is very minimal overhead to running Pulse HD. Practically, there would be no impact on system resources as a result of running Pulse HD. Q4. Will Pulse HD do any updates locally to NOS? Pulse HD will not do any local NOS updates. Q5. How much volume of data will be transferred? What is the transport protocol? The data volume may vary a bit depending on configuration and environment. Typically, the data collected is around 50KB per node once every 5 mins, and around 200KB per node once per day. v1.1 08/05/2014 Pulse HD uses a REST protocol to perform a “POST” with compressed payload. Q6. What ports does a customer need to open? Enable outgoing traffic to port 80 on a well known endpoint Q7. Which NOS version does Pulse HD support? Pulse HD is independent of NOS version, and works with all Nutanix versions. 2. Beta Program Q8. When will the beta start? The customers can start the beta deployment from Sept. 15 to Nov. 14. Since Pulse HD doesn’t impact the running CVM and the data collected are used immediately by SRE for better customer support, the customers are encouraged to keep the Pulse HD running until the GA. We tentatively expect its GA in the first quarter of 2015. Q9. What does a customer need to prepare in order to run Pulse HD Beta? Ensure data channel from Pulse HD to a wellknown endpoint is open (see question 6 below). Other than that, you won’t need to change any of your current configuration and process. This is totally transparent to you. Q10. Who is going to install Pulse HD? The Nutanix engineering team along with the SRE team would install Pulse HD, after obtaining the necessary approval from the customer. Q11. How often during the Learning? |
